Vegan Tzatziki Sauce

October 22, 2018 by GH

Vegan Tzatziki Sauce

Tzatziki is a traditional Greek sauce with a light, fresh taste. Traditionally made with greek yogurt, it’s creamy without being really heavy. To make our own Vegan Tzatziki Sauce, we’ve used plain coconut yogurt to sub in for the greek yogurt. With bold flavors of lemon, dill and mint, this makes a fabulous dip to serve with fresh veggies, pita bread, or chips. If you like falafel, my vegan Tzatziki sauce goes great with that too! Or, use it as a sauce for pita wraps, or my Vegan Greek Tofu Bowls.

If you want to go big or go home with Greek flavor, whip up a meze platter and serve with Ouzo, a greek anise-flavored liquor that is reminiscent of licorice.

I love this sauce – it’s so easy!

I came up with this recipe after going to the local annual Greek festival. So many yummy looking dishes were served with this tzatziki sauce, and I just had to make my own vegan version of it at home.  Before leave the yogurt aisle, be sure to double-check your brand of coconut yogurt closely to make sure you didn’t accidentally pick up a vanilla flavored or fruit flavored one. You definitely want plain non-dairy yogurt for this one.

Tzatziki is a Greek yogurt sauce. It has a light, fresh taste and adds a creaminess to any dish. Use it as a dip, or add it over a bed of rice or as a drizzle on a pita bread sandwich.
Ingredients
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 4 5.3 oz containers plain coconut yogurt
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • The juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon mint
  • 1 teaspoon dill
  • 1 tsp. black pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Toss all ingredients into a blender and puree until smooth.
  2. Taste and adjust seasonings to your preference. I like lots of dill flavor in mine.
  3. That's it! Use this as a dip for fresh vegetables, pita bread, chips, or as a sauce to top any dish when you want to add creamy, fresh flavor.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Vegan Tzatziki Sauce

I almost feel silly posting instructions for this, but here goes!

Step 1

First, toss all ingredients into your blender. Alternatively you could mince your garlic and just whisk together your ingredients in a bowl; I just love my Vitamix.

Step 2

Puree or whisk until smooth.

Step 3

Taste and adjust seasoning to your preference.

That’s it. You’re done.
This sauce is great by itself, and it’s also part of my Meal Prep series. If you want some tasty make-ahead greek-inspired food, check out these Greek Tofu Bowls.
